The Characters

Diablo III features 5 exciting character classes. We see the return of the classic Barbarian class as well as the addition of four new classes featuring: Witch Doctor, Wizard, Monk and Demon Hunter. Each class comes with its own unique play style with Diablo enthusiasts being sure to quickly decide on their favourite!

Here is a quick rundown of the key aspects of the Diablo III character classes:

Witch Doctor

voodoo/shaman
summoning, throws bombs, casts curses, harvests souls
uses mana

Barbarian

warrior/ physical prowess
whirlwinds through crowds, deceives through swarms,
crushes opponents on landing
uses fury

Wizard

basically a Sorceress from Diablo II
shoots lightning, fire and ice
can slow time and teleport
uses arcane power

Monk

melee attacks using martial arts
cripples foes, resists damage, deflects projectiles
and has a high attack speed
uses spirit

Demon Hunter

elements of Amazon and Assassin from Diablo II
uses crossbow as main weapon
throws small bombs
fueled by discipline and hatred

The Setting

Diablo III is set in Sanctuary, much like its predecessors I and II, 20 years after the last onslaught brought about by the army of the Burning Hells. Where Diablo II focused on killing the three Prime Evils, Mephisto, Diablo and eventually Baal (Lord of Destruction Expansion); Diablo III focuses on defeating the two remaining Lesser Evils, Azmodan and Belial. There is also mystery surrounding an artefact known as the back soul stone.

It is now up to a new generation of heroes to save Sanctuary from the grasps of evil.

Hardcore Diablo fans will be pleased to know that they will be immersed once again in saving the town of Tristram with Diablo III. This is an excellent move on Blizzard’s part as it helps to at least keep some of the traditional feel to Diablo III rather than changing everything – effectively creating a new game.
